A home often has to be show-ready in a hurry when a buyer calls asking for a property tour. Professional home stagers have plenty of cleaning tricks up their sleeve to get a home ready in a hurry. They recently shared with Apartment Therapy some of their best cleaning secrets, including:
Use a hand steamer.
A handheld clothing steamer can be used to remove grime on glass shower doors or curtains, Justin Riordan, founder of Spade and Archer, told Apartment Therapy.
Scrub with a “magic eraser.”
Remove scratches on walls or imperfections by buffing them with a magic eraser, as melamine sponges are often called, suggests Cathy Lorenz with Cathy Lorenz Designs in New York City.
Grab baking soda.
Baking soda is one of stagers’ favorite hacks because it can help remove funky smells. Sprinkle some baking soda on upholstered furniture or on the carpet, let it sit for 15 minutes, and then vacuum it up, suggests Lorenz.
Let natural light in.
Open up the windows to air out any bad odors prior to a showing, suggests Carolina Harmon, a trends analyst at Lowe’s. Also, bring in plants and greenery to clean and calm the space.
