About 1.5 million employer-assisted relocations occur each year, according to the Employee Relocation Council. Each of these clients may be relying on you to help ease their transition into a new city.
Relocating clients tend to face pressure in learning a new city and buying a home under a compressed timeline. As such, they may require more showings than local clients as they get acquainted to the area’s housing market. Relocating clients may also come with additional special paperwork and documentation.
To ease their stress, an article at RISMedia recently highlighted a few ideas from HSA Home Warranty on how to make a relocating client’s move go smoother:
- Send maps of the city that show the different neighborhoods highlighted. This will help them get a better feel for the area.
- Ask about their individual or family interests. Once they arrive, find local information to show them what’s nearby. For example, if they like sporting events, have schedules of area sports teams available to hand them. Or, if tennis is a hobby, have information on where public and private courts are located in the area. If they have children, show them age-appropriate, kid-friendly activities.
- Provide some pet options for those with pets. Arrange a list of nearby pet boarding options, veterinary clinics, or dog parks.
- Offer a community calendar or send them a link to one online. They’ll be able to see all the activities to get involved in that are happening in their new area.
